Take it or leave it

I'm pretty happy with this. This is possibly one of the best drawings I've ever done. I spent a couple of months on this, and is probably the most effort I've put into a piece for my art course this year. I'm a perfectionist and all, but I realised super-realism is boring, so I try to give it character and put myself into it rather than a sterile reproduction of reality.

We were required to interpret a chosen proverb. I chose 'Eat this soup of jump out of the window', which I picked because it sounded funny . Turns out the italian proverb represents 'take it or leave it' in normal terms. Hence, I decided to use the matrix as a vessel of displaying choice, and how we can choose to face up to ourselves, or take the easy way out.

In this case, I've got a slight literal element with the bowl of soup, reflecting the sayings reference to doing something you may not necessarily want to do. But then the gun representing death, an easy way out of one's choices in life.

Enjoy. This is better in real life but oh well. Hope the photo does it justice!
